4 Tips For Dealing With Using Copyrighted or Licensed Music

When it comes to dealing with copyrighted or licensed music, the most important thing to understand is that you need to be using it the right way. There's this ongoing debate about the difference between fair use and copyrighted music as well. Some will say that if you don't have a large following then you're not at risk because it won't be that easy to find you. I disagree. The reason why I think it matters regardless to your following count is for the same reason that people who create and produce music have a license for their music.I choose not to use copyrighted music without obtaining a license (for my projects), because there is the possibility of having legal issues. And who wants that? Of course everyone wants a popular or well-known song in their final video product, but no one wants that legal bill that could come with it. Oftentimes clients may ask to use a popular song because they really like it, and they also know that it will bring more attention to their video. Don't you have one? Of course you do, but when it comes to being a professional and creating video projects, it's not worth it to be sued for using copyrighted music. Here's my advice on what you should do.

Education never hurt anyone...It's all in the delivery. Telling someone out right that you cannot use a copyrighted song may have them confused. So it is your job to explain why you cannot use it. You need to be able to articulate this to your clients and to your customers so that they have full understanding that you don't want them to be in a position that could cause them financial discomfort.
